Summer Schedule For Kids

So summer is in full swing over here and it isn't looking like normal summers for us because of COVID 19.

As my little one has said, “It has ruined EVERYTHING!” Not everything, but to a little girl of 8 who was looking forward to swim team, to a girl of 11 who was looking forward to playing Rafiki in her production of the LION KING and to a 14 year old boy looking forward to High School Camp…it seems like EVERYTHING!

Usually we are deep into swim team every day, scheduling time with friends, and preparing for vacations and camps. For us, our summer looks like a week of preparing for vacation or camp, a week of fun, and then a week of detox, only to do it all again! It's full and busy and though I am enjoying our time of unbusy, IT’S A LOT OF TIME!

And my kids are somewhat restless and we are only a week in! We've already had the "you can not be on a screen all day" discussion. Twice!

My plan is to have something to look forward to every week, be that a small vacation close to home, fun with our small circle of friends or fun projects.

You know I believe in boredom, because boredom leads to creativity. But we also need routine (Check out this podcast on Routine and Quarantine). So I created this simple, daily summer schedule for them (yeah, even the teenager) because we just need to be on some kind of routine. Who's with me?

Hopefully it helps us have fun and make the days count. Here’s to a happy Summer!
