Early on in our marriage, my husband was struggling with his career and finding his place.
By God’s grace, the Lord moved him to pursue another career option and God has been his guiding light in every season and His favor has been upon him when it comes to his work.
However, during those uncertain and insecure days, I prayed for my husband daily. I was worried for him. He was discontented, insecure, scared and uncertain.
Our home life was wonderful. We were raising babies into toddlers. We loved each other more and more daily. We were in church with great friends and leading small groups and growing in faith. But work was shaking us some.
I tried to encourage him. I tried to make my home a haven of rest after the weary days. I prayed over my husband.
Sometimes, though all those things are good, there are seasons in the lives of our children and our husbands where we don’t need just good, we need the supernatural to intervene.
We need the power of the Holy Spirit to move on their behalf.
It was time to not just pray, but to go to war. I didn’t have a war room, but I had God’s word and I knew that in order for the Holy Spirit to move, I needed to pray His word over my husband. I began reading and praying, looking for the verses that were meant for him in this season when finally, I ended up in Ephesians.
I needed to speak the truth and power of this scripture over my husband.
I needed him to know how much he was loved, not just by his family, but by his God.
I needed him to know he was a child of God and therefore, being cared for and secured by his father.
I needed him to be strong for whatever came our way as the leader of our home and family.
I needed Christ to reign in his heart and for his faith to be full.
I needed him to be rooted and established in the love of Christ, so he would love and walk and talk and teach and lead us from that foundation of truth.
At the end of the day I didn’t care about his job or his career or how much money he made, I cared about his faith and his relationship with our Lord and I desired that his love for us would resemble the Love Christ has for His church.
I didn’t want him to lay his life down for a job, but for his God.
I wrote this scripture on an index card and set it on my bedside table and every night for many years after, he would fall asleep while I would scratch his back and I would grab the card and lay hands on my husband and pray this scripture over him. I would replace his name in certain places…”I pray that out of your glorious riches, Father strengthen my husband with power…so that Christ may dwell in my husband’s heart through faith…”
The Lord has been faithful to us, and He has established His heart in my husband and now I do not only pray that over my husband, but over my son and daughters too. You can find these scripture prayers, plus a few more on this download. Keep it in your bible or on index cards or on your bedside table.
If your husband or children are struggling, insecure, uncertain, facing difficulty or faithlessness, I challenge you to call upon the power of the holy spirit, lay hands on your children as they sleep or every time you hug them and pray these scriptures over them.
